Web Application and API Protection (WAAP)
WAAP (Web Application and API Protection) is the category of cloud services that combine a WAF with bot management, API security and Layer 7 DDoS protection.
The term reflects how attacks moved beyond classic web forms to APIs and automated traffic. Most major CDN and cloud providers now sell WAAP bundles rather than a standalone WAF.
Bundling features into one vendor's product doesn't solve the multi-vendor problem: large organizations still run several WAAP services side by side, each with its own rules and blind spots.
