Subdomain takeover
A subdomain takeover happens when a DNS record still points to a service the company no longer controls (a deleted cloud app, an expired storefront), letting an attacker claim that service and serve content on the company's subdomain.
Takeovers usually come from forgotten DNS records after a project ends. Attackers scan for these dangling records at scale and use the hijacked subdomains for phishing, malware or SEO spam that inherits the brand's trust.
Prevention is DNS hygiene: tracking what each record points to and removing records when services are retired.
Where Huskeys fits
Huskeys monitors DNS and edge configuration together, catching dangling records before attackers do.
