Content Delivery Network (CDN)

A content delivery network (CDN) is a global network of servers that caches and serves web content close to users, and increasingly hosts security controls such as WAFs and bot detection.

CDNs were built for speed: serving images, scripts and pages from a nearby location. Because all traffic already flows through them, CDN providers added security features, which made the CDN a main enforcement point at the edge.

CDN configuration also affects security directly. Caching rules, origin settings and DNS records decide whether attackers can reach the application without passing through the WAF.

Where Huskeys fits

Huskeys reads CDN and WAF configuration together, so gaps between them (like an exposed origin) show up.
